Sherwood Nottingham shoot

This is a shoot that brings archers of all categories. Sherwood, Oregon and Nottingham, England compete with each other in various archery categories. Sherwood Oregon won in all categories this year. The longbow teams from Oregon and England compete against each other for the prize of a silver bowl. The bowl will remain in Oregon. It was a great shoot and had great participation.

Sylvan’s Annual Luau/Potluck

Sylvan archers held the annual members Luau/Potluck on August 10th 2002. All members were invited to come out and enjoy! There was not as big of a crowd as we were hoping to see.

Those of us who were there really enjoyed ourselves.

Oregon State Games

Oregon State Games is an event that is not much talked about, but an event in which Sylvan Archers does support and participate in. With the help from a few of the members and other individuals, they set up the Targets from Sylvan’s, allowing archers to shoot from the ranges from 10 yards all the way up to 65 yards.  Every year there is a great turn out and everyone enjoys himself or herself.  This year there were allot of shooters and most of them went home with Medals.  It is an exciting time and Sylvan should be thanked for their participation and support.

Sylvan Constitution Committee Formed
The past presidents are beginning to gather to review he existing constitution. That would be the constitution that was printed in your last newsletter. You should keep that copy for future reference. We will be using the newsletter to review and discuss the current constitution & bylaws with you, the club members.

After we have had a thorough discussion, we will offer some changes for your review and discussion.

Finally, we will bring those changes to a meeting for discussion and a vote. This will be in June of next year. Something this important deserves some time to develop. This is the basic agreement between the members and those they elect to an office. You need to understand it so you can participate effectively in the meetings and voting.

Right now you have more important things to do; Go hunting, and elect new officers this November. Good hunting ! Good luck!

ALLEN F. STOVER, PAST PRESIDENT 1985 - 1987

Motion

The below mentioned motion was made at the August Meeting by Max Tannery. It was requested by board and members at the August meeting that this be posted in the newsletter so that the membership be aware of the motion and so that they would know that this will be up for vote at the next membership meeting, November 07, 2002. Committee shall consist of (5) members in good standing, No member on this committee shall be a current board member, trustee, or candidate that’s running for a next years board elected position,       The committee will appoint a chairperson,                       The committee will be in effect until the following August when new appointments are made,

This committee shall collect all nominations, set policies as to the rules for running all elections (except they may not be in conflict with our constitution and by-laws, or any county, state, federal laws), methods of voting, constructing the ballot, collecting and counting all votes, and to make recommendations on matters; that the board needs arbitrated, or any subject in may be assigned by the board of directors,

Retain and care for all ballots, and original policies established, except meeting minutes,

One member of this committee shall attend each and all meetings for Sylvan Archers that deals with the business of this archery club, except OBH annual meetings; and reports back to this committee on any business that needs to be checked by constitution, by-laws, or membership approval before it’s ratification of being policy; provided there is a objection or protest on an issue that the board does not have time to resolve during a normal meeting. This committee shall report back to the board for final approval and with one or more resolutions, and their recommendation for resolving the issue at the next meeting under old business.

Sincerely submitted,
Max D. Tannery

From Your Secretary:
Can’t believe it’s time for another newsletter already. At the meeting on Aug. 1 Mike Hurley was appointed as 3rd. VP. Outdoor range. John Wilfong was appointed Assistant Range Director and Tanya Richards was appointed as Publicity chairperson. I think we now have a full Board of Directors. However, we will not be meeting again until Nov., 2002. That gives all a break to concentrate on their favorite hunting area or revamping their bow equipment or just relaxing and enjoying the range.
While I’m thinking of it, if you have a thought in the back of your mind about helping out on the board next year please consider submitting your name for nomination to an office at the Nov. meeting. We need you. You can’t imagine how much. Wouldn’t it be great, exciting, awesome or whatever adjective you want to use to describe it, if four, five or even just two people would run for each office. Call me a dreamer but I believe it can be done if people just care enough to help. Each and everyone one of you in the club have ideas about how you would like to see things changed and sad as it may sound, the only way to do this is to get in there and contribute in any way you can. Please don’t let my dream down.
There are two positions opening up on the Board of Trustees. If anyone wishes to run for the positions you need to submit a resume to be published in the newsletter and submit your name for nomination at the Nov. meeting.
The time is drawing near. It’s almost here.

You’ve got to calm yourself down and think real clear.

Always aim straight and let your arrows fly free.

It’s not up to you as you will soon see.

Keep your broadheads sharp and your pins in line

And you’ll get an animal everytime……..well maybe.
Good Luck
Your Sec.

Elk or Venison Jerky

Makes 6 to 8 servings

" Venison jerky that can be made in just 13 hours. Sliced elk or venison marinated in brine then dried in a dehydrator for 12 hours. "

 Ingredients

3 pounds elk or venison roast

3 cups soy sauce

3 cups packed brown sugar

4 fluid ounces hickory-flavored liquid smoke

 Directions

1 Slice roast into slabs approximately 1/4 inch thick. Trim off all of the fat from the edges. Cut the slabs into pencil-like strips (about 1/4 inch wide), and about 4 inches long.

2 In a large bowl, combine the soy sauce, brown sugar and hickory-flavored liquid smoke; blend well. Place all of the meat into the bowl of marinade. Cover and place in refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

3 Place the meat in a food dehydrator for about 12 to 20 hours, depending how dry you like your jerky. Rotate the trays after 6 hours. For example: Bottom tray on top, top tray on bottom, second tray from bottom to be second tray from top, and so on.

Letter from the club President

To all Sylvans,

Regarding past news letters. We, your Board of Governors and I, apologize to everyone who was offended by previous newsletters. We do not endorse most of the comments or subjects of the last two newsletters. This newsletter is not the forum for controversial topics, therefore we will instead attempt to move on to enjoying and promoting archery. So lets all just shoot our bows and try to enjoy ourselves.

It has been no secret that there are divergent ideologies regarding the direction your management should take to ensure fulfillment of Constitutional mandates. This president*s goal is to lead this club into the 21st century making positive but cautious progress. If we choose the path of stagnation or the path of regression, we condemn ourselves to extinction.

Some of you may remember the survey in 1992, of things you wanted to see happen at your club. I*m pleased to announce that most of those projects have been completed. Those few that have not been completed are due largely to budgetary constraints. They require a large commitment to capital outlay, and we need to be very judicious when we embark on such an endeavor.

Your Board has suggested that another survey be taken to update our goals and objectives. In this newsletter, you will find a "wish list" of sorts. Please take time to fill it out and return it to me or drop it in the green locked box up at the range. Remember, treat it like a wish list, not a feasibility study. This will help your Board to keep us on track and focused.

I*m pleased to announce that upon the resignations announced in the last Archer*s Aim, Mike Hurley, John Wilfong and Tanya Richards stepped forward to fill the positions of 3rd Vice President/Range Director, Assistant Range Director and Publicity Chairperson, respectfully. I*m confident that these people will prove to be an asset to Sylvan Archers in the future. Lady and gentlemen, a hearty "WELCOME" to you and "thanks."

One other piece of business then we*ll move on to more pleasant things. Your Board of Directors along with the membership-at-large will meet November 7, 2002 at Denney*s in Wilsonville. Meeting will be called to order at 7:00 P.M. The purpose of the meeting is to nominate those people who will serve on the Board of Directors in the year 2003. In addition, there will be two vacancies on the Board of Trustees that need to be filled. Anyone wishing to serve on that board must have his/her resume published in this newsletter. You can send your resume to either myself or Tanya Richards. If you wish to E-mail it, her address is: sylvanarchersnewsletter@yahoo.com.

On the lighter side, we had our Third Annual Luau the other day and as usual, an excellent job was done by Keola Camacho, Dave Tilford, Darrell Rustrum, Richard Rich, Chris & Tanya Richards and many others who worked hard to make this annual event a success. There was plenty of food and the ladies who brought side dishes and desserts outdid themselves again this year. For those of you who were unable to attend, don*t miss next year*s luau. Keola & Company set out some 3-D targets and many of the people had a good time shooting with no pressure to perform. I even noticed a few people gathering blackberries with the help of some of the very young children. A good time was had by all.
